What makes your gym different?

Unfortunately Los Angeles Area gyms have become completely overrun with people.

24 hour gyms are no longer open 24 hours.

Long wait times for equipment or machines destroy your motivation to train.

While other gyms work on a high volume model, our goal is to have less people having a better experience.

Think of it as a shared home gym in a way, and you can access all over our gyms in the area.

With our model there are times you can train completely by yourself, or share the space with a few other people, but you’ll never have to wait for anything!

A 2 hour workout in a big box gym might take you 45 minutes in ours, so the time savings alone is worth it for most people.

With the reduced foot traffic and our orientation process, members also tend to take more pride and better care of our facility!

In a world of bots and corporate chain gyms we focus on providing a quality safe space for our members to train and pride ourselves on our customer service, communication and building an amazing community!

We are most definitely a bootstrapped, small business that started with very humble beginnings. We work on very slim profit margins to keep quality high while still maintaining reasonable prices to stay competitive with corporate gyms.

Our original location 4 Star Gym, has been a staple small town key access gym in El Segundo since 1969 changing hands quite a few times over the years in an attempt to preserve it’s history.

In 2010 our coaching and programming service began to evolve, which empowered members with sustainable training habits and the education needed to train safely on their own.

We’ve since expanded our small gyms to other cities including Los Angeles, Redondo and Torrance as our model has been a welcomed relief to the more traditional overcrowded LA gym culture.

Do I have to do Coaching?

Not at all!

You can join directly as an Open Gym Member.

Many choose to do one of our 1 on 1 Barbell Master Classes as a way to clean up form, address common injury patterns, improve muscle engagement and get pointed in the right direction if they want to train on their own.

Because we do all our Master Classes 1 on 1 we can quickly advance or regress the training camp, making it perfect for those with an intermediate or advanced level of training, or a complete beginner that has never stepped foot in a gym!

The Master Classes are completely optional but do significantly reduce our injury rates so if you choose to sign up for one we waive our open gym initiation fee!

What’s that Master Class / Training Camp thing?

The Barbell Master Class, or as we sometimes refer to it as The Training Camp consist of 3 or 5, 60-90 minute deep dive training sessions performed 1 on 1 with the GTS Coaching Staff.

This isn’t some randomized workout designed to make you sweat. The goal is to educate and empower people with information and practical hands on training, programming and nutritional knowledge so they can do things on their own.

We don’t expect you to be an expert in 3-5 days, but the goal is to build a common language, elevate your form standards, actually feel the muscles you’re supposed to be working, address and identify common injury patterns and build more sustainable training and programming habits you can take with you anywhere.

The training camps are always done 1 on 1 so we can meet people where they are and quickly advance or regress the structure based on the individual.

In fact we train advanced level athletes, physical therapists, personal trainers, working moms/dads, recreational gym goers and people that have never stepped foot in a gym!

We’ll be reviewing all of your primary movement patterns like squatting, hinging/deadlifting, pressing and pulling mechanics.

We layer in some body part muscle engagement concepts (body building), as well some some Physical Therapy concepts because we’ve seen just about every injury pattern known to man over the last 15 years.

Best of all there’s no obligation to sign up for anything in our gym afterwards. We have people come from all over the world to do our Master Classes, learn all our secrets and take them elsewhere!

And if you enjoy our coaching and programming style and want to stick around with us, the hard work is done. That time we spent with you enables us to design individualized programs for everyone and provide them the independence of training with us, or without us.

It also allows us to bring the cost down significantly to a more reasonable monthly model that provides a mixture of programming, coaching and open gym.

How does the pricing work?

The Master Classes are a one time thing!

Everything else is set up as a No Contract Month to Month.

Some people train 1-3 days a week and offset us with other gyms or activities, and others train with us exclusively 4-7 times per week. Because of that we created a tiered membership system so you can upgrade or downgrade depending on your training needs and schedule!

We have suspension options that allow you to preserve your pricing and initiation fee and take a break or travel when needed.

Since we don’t lock you into long term contracts, there’s an initiation fee with open gym only memberships which goes toward your orientation, key set up, member responsibilities, etc.

One of the perks of doing the Master Class first is we waive the initiation fee on open gym, since it significantly helps us keep any injuries in our gym to a minimum.

Even though we budget all our expenses a month in advance, all we ask is for a 15 Day Notice of Cancellation, and even then we’ll pro-rate the difference so you’re not coming out of pocket a full month.

The pricing is best described over a 5-10 minute phone call as it’s rather unique and our pricing gets updated several times a year.

A quick call helps to remove any ambiguity and it’s a great opportunity for us to get to know all of our potential members!

What are your hours?

Open Gym Access is 24 Hours per day!

Our staffed coaching hours vary across day and location, we’ll send these two you at the end of our call. Typically morning coaching hours can range between 6-11am and evening hours from 3-7pm.

Our tours and walkthroughs are mainly done during our staffed coaching hours, so we need to schedule a time with you so we can free ourselves up.

What ages do you train?

The whole spectrum!

We have trained children starting around 10-12 years old and adults well into their 80’s! The beauty of the Master Class is it allows us to spend a lot of focused time with people up front where it’s’ most critical.

Do you offer Day or Week Passes?

Since our open gym model is a key access system there is a bit of an orientation process to get started.

We try our best to accomodate people where we can, but there’s no guarantees the timing works out.

Multi-Day or Week passes typically make the most financial sense. Single Day passes usually make more sense after your first visit when you’ve received your key and orientation to our gym.

If you reach out through our contact form we can figure out if we can help or not.

Completely New to Training and Gyms?

Gyms can be intimidating, but don’t worry, you’re in the right place!

You probably have come across the countless benefits of strength and resistance training but don’t know where to start.

Our Master Classes are designed to get you comfortable in any gym space or get you back up and running if it’s been a while and you need a tune up!

For beginners, we take all the guess work out of getting started as we’ll review gym etiquette, terms, equipment, technique and programming concepts.

We like to pretend like you’ve never stepped foot in a gym, removes the ego from the equation and makes it a very educational experience!
